Metal supergroup Corrections House have released a cover of Neil Young’s classic “Cortez The Killer.”
Corrections House features Mike Williams of Eyehategod, Scott Kelly of Neurosis, Bruce Lamant of Yakuza, and producer Sanford Parker. The band is releasing a live record titled Writing History In Advance, which is their second album besides Last City Zero, which came out in 2013.
The song, “Cortez the Killer,” is off Neil Young’s 1975 album Zuma. The song is about Hernan Cortez, a conquistador who conquered Spain during the 16th century. The song is ranked #321 out of the Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list.
Corrections House puts a new metal spin on the famous song, doing what a good cover should, making the song their own. Corrections House features a super group of metal heads who told Metal Injection that the new album’s function is, “To deliver a wholly cerebral, impossible-to-pinpoint kaleidoscopic synthesis of mechanical decomposition, atmospheric abnormalities, and poetic putrefaction.”
The band has released the cover before setting off on their US tour, which kicks off on the 30th in Boston. The tour will also promote their new live album, Writing History In Advance. The band will tour all over the US, first in the northeast, then venturing to Portland only three weeks later.
Seward Fairbury, the band’s “minister of propaganda” told Ear Split,
“CORRECTIONS HOUSE will bring their truncheon down on your head repeatedly until you submit or vacate the premises. This band has grown into a force since their initial trek through the landscape known as the United States of Unamerican activities. They will bludgeon you with no apology. Test us.”
