Anamanaguchi has released a new video for the single “Pop It”. The single “Pop It” is part of Anamanaguchi’s new album [USA] which is due out in 2015.
In a press release the video was described saying, “the video combines the look of clean fashion advertising with a warped sense of cute culture. A mystery magical girl singer sits alone popping balloons at her leisure, until obsessive superfans invade her pristine world with their own deformed, disfigured balloons. The singer struggles with her cute simple pleasure being transformed into someone else’s strange fetish. In the end, she overcomes them by simply popping them”.
Anamanaguchi’s video features Meesh. The main protagonist of the video’s outfit resembles that of anime star Sailor Moon. The “wand” she is holding to pop the balloons also seems remnant of the anime character. Throughout the video, no one’s face is revealed which adds to the air of mystery and bubbly fun that is seen throughout the video. The grotesque nature of no faces is overcome by the ending as the protagonist pops her own balloon, but the viewer is never satisfied by seeing her face.
The single “Pop It” is currently featured in a Target commercial as part of the retailers fall fashion campaign. The song is currently available along with 5 remixed versions on iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon. Also, the group recently announced winter tour dates. Fans can view the new “Pop It” video below.
