The Pop Group Announce Their First New Album In 35 Years

Experimental rockers the Pop Group will be releasing their album Citizen Zombie on February 25. It will be the band’s first album in 35 years.

The Pop Group’s last album, For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder?, hit stores in 1980. Following that release, in 1981, the band broke up. The four main members of the group – vocalist Mark Edwards, guitarist Gareth Sager, bassist Dan Catsis and drummer Bruce Smith – did reunite in 2010, but never released new music.

According to Rolling Stone, the Pop Group worked with Paul Epworth, a Grammy-winning pop producer, on the forthcoming record. Epworth has previously worked with Coldplay on Ghost Stories, Adele on 21 and Paul McCartney on New. Though the Pop Group does not usually make actual pop music, they were excited to work with Epworth. Edwards called him one of the world’s best producers and said, “He gave us the freedom to create and, with his help, destiny rides again for The Pop Group.”

Epworth was similarly looking forward to collaborating with the band, saying, “The energy is still there, the ideas are still there, it still fizzes with a life that most young bands just don’t have.”

The Pop Group will also be touring in North America in March 2015 in support of the album, including a stop at SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas.
