Jack White paid tribute to his former keyboardist Isaiah “Ikey” Owens during a performance he gave in London. Owens, who was White’s keyboardist during many of his tours and also featured as the keyboardist for the Mars Volta, passed away from a heart attack while on tour with Jack White in Mexico.
After a brief hiatus from the road to mourn the tragic passing of his friend and keyboardist “Ikey” Owens, Jack White paid tribute to Owens during live concert performance held in London. After asking the audience to “give it up for Ikey,” White went into a rendition of the song “Love Interruption,” a song off of White’s first solo album Blunderbuss. Both Owens and White were founding members of their newest group collaboration, The Dead Weathers, who released a new single shortly before Owens’ passing.
A fan video of the performance emerged on YouTube, broadcasting the respect and admiration that White had for his fellow band member. Beginning roughly around the four-and-a-half minute mark, White proudly declared that, despite Owens’ passing, “he’s still here with us.”
Owens died of a heart attack while on tour with White and The Dead Weathers. No official investigation has occurred regarding the specifics of Owens’ death. Isaiah “Ikey” Owens was thirty-eight years old.
