Radiohead Announce They Are Working On A New Album

This week, Radiohead announced they have begun working on a follow up to The King of Limbs.

The band’s guitarist Johnny Greenwood confirmed that Radiohead was back in the studio in an interview with BBC Radio Oxford. But, according to PasteMagazine, the rumors had been flying since September, when Radiohead’s Thom Yorke tweeted a mysterious photo of an album.

Greenwood cautioned fans and the media that the album is still in its very early experimental stages. PasteMagazine is reporting that he told Radio Oxford,

“It always feels when we start up like we still don’t know really how to do it, and we don’t know quite what to do. ‘Looking down avenues’ is a very kind way of putting the kind of fumbling that we do, mainly because every time we try and do it like the last time – because that worked – it never seems to work. So we talk about different approaches and we’re currently trying a bunch out.”

In the Radio Oxford interview, NME notes that Greenwood said that the band is “currently playing and recording and it’s fun to see everyone again, it’s been a long time coming, we’ve been waiting all of us for a long time.” And, he added, “working with Radiohead is all about repetition and working slowly.”

And, Greenwood has been busy outside of his Radiohead commitments. NME reported that he has worked on the soundtrack for Inherent Vice, a film adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel of the same name, which opens in UK cinemas on January 30, 2015.

In addition to a host of original Greenwood compositions, the soundtrack – which is set for a December 12 release for our U.K. readers, and December 15 for those in the U.S. – features Neil Young’s “Journey Through The Past”, Can’s “Vitamin C”, and ‘Les Fleur’ by Minnie Ripperton.
