Boston-based folk singer Marissa Nadler graced us with her seventh studio album July earlier this year via Sacred Bones. Months after its release, Nadler is back with Before July, a digital-only collection of four demos and unreleased songs.
Among the album outtakes is a cover of Elliott Smith’s endearing “Pitseleh.” Nadler previously performed the cover at a tribute show in Brooklyn for the revered songwriter. The cover perfectly captures the essence of Smith’s trademark heartbreakingly melancholy sound. Nadler’s soothing vocals and subtle use of synths provides a dreamy rendition that honors the late musician flawlessly.
