Faith No More has released their first material in seventeen years, a song titled “Motherfucker,” off their upcoming album, set to be released in February of 2015.
Faith No More has released their first song in seventeen years, “Motherfucker,” their first single off their new album, which will be released in April of next year. The new album was produced by bassist Bill Gould in Oakland, and released on their label Reclamation Records, and distributed by Mike Patton’s Impecac Recordings.
“Motherfucker,” which the band performed live for the first time over summer, will be available on seven inch vinyl on Record Store Day’s Black Friday on November 28th, and will be released digitally on December 9th. Although the band hasn’t set a release date for the new album yet, the band plan on touring the US extensively, and have released dates for an international tour, starting February in Japan.
In regards to their new song “Motherfucker,” keyboardist Roddy Bottum called it,
“A song about accountability. Basically we’ve created, recorded and mixed a new body of work by ourselves and we’re releasing it on our own label. It’s a huge deal for us to only have ourselves to answer to at this point in our career and the song is about that, where the buck stops via the basic imagery of foie gras production, bondage… y’know, stuff like that.”
Faith No More’s new album was cultivated by bassist Bill Gould, drummer Mike Bordin, and guitarist Jon Hudson, in Gould’s practice spaces in Oakland. After sending Mike Patton tracks of their demos, Patton agreed to record some new material. The first song Patton agreed to perform on, “Matador,” is Gould’s favorite of the new tracks. Two other tracks were perfomed by the band at the British Summertime Festival, although the band still has 15 demos that haven’t been tracked yet.
After finally being freed from their old contracts, Faith No More is now completely independent. Bill Gould talked about the band’s new label, Reclamation Records, with Rolling Stone,
“The name has to do with the fact that we realized we were free from our recording obligations. We weren’t touring, we have these songs that we were working on — that we think are pretty cool — and why don’t we just do our own imprint and kind of reclaim our future, in a way? We own the future more than we ever have.”
Although the band hasn’t released new material since 1997’s Album of the Year, Gould says that any new material the band makes will always sound like them, and will always be hard to pinpoint. Gould stated, “What I can say is that I think through our experience as musicians over the years, I think what we’re doing reflects where we’ve gone since we made our last record as Faith No More..”
Faith No More’s new song “Motherfucker” is just a taste of what to expect from the band’s newest album, set to be released in February of 2015.
