Sleigh Bells’ Alexis Krauss and Derek Miller first met rising talent rapper/singer Tink during a Red Bull Sound Select show at SXSW 2014 in Austin. The two were in awe by the unequivocal energy and confidence she exuded while performing on stage. Krauss and Miller were so taken aback by her stage presence, that they invited her to sing during the final moments of their SXSW set.

Tink convened with Krauss and Miller again while the duo was in Red Bull Sound Select’s New York City studio recording music for Sleigh Bells. This time, they wanted Tink to create a verse for an unused song Miller had produced in 2013. Under the working title, “Infinite Power,” Krauss and Miller were constantly unsatisfied with the track’s production.

Things suddenly changed when Tink entered the studio. After Krauss discussed the song’s theme with her, she immediately went to work. It only took her a few minutes to write up the opening verse to the song.

Work in the studio progressed successfully. Their collaboration deepened as Krauss and Tink worked out the song’s melodies and vocal parts. In the span of a day, “That Did It” was finished.

In an interview with Rolling Stone Miller said, “Once Alexis and Tink started playing off of each other, their chemistry redeemed the whole thing for me. Suddenly I fell back in love with the track.”

“That Did It,” a title that originates from an unrehearsed ad-lib Tink used in the studio, brings the Chicago rapper/singer’s self-assured stage presence to life. Her energetic verse in combination with Krauss’ smooth vocals brings forth a pop rock tune that will surely have you craving another collaboration soon.
