Space. Apocalypse. A desert that reminds me of Tattooine, sans the twin suns. It’s all found in Starwalker’s newest video release for the single “Blue Hawaii.”
Jean-Benoit Dunckel, one-half of the new duo Starkiller, described the video for “Blue Hawaii” as “a dream about searching for sounds.” In the desert terrain that makes up the landscape of this dream, both Dunckel and Bardi Johannsson find the source of their “sound” in the form of a giant speaker, buried under unknown circumstances out in the middle of an apparent post-apocalyptic nowhere. The music that accompanies this video is a spacey and mind-bending as the video itself, featuring autotuned vocals a-la Daft Punk. Coming fresh off of the release of Christopher Nolan’s fantastic new movie Interstellar, the video for “Blue Hawaii” is at once weird, wonderful, and mind-blowing. Starwalker’s new record won’t be out until sometime next year, so until then, we’ll have to freak out in the moonage daydream that is Starwalker’s newest video.
