WATCH: Ryan Adams Releases New Video For “Do You Laugh When You Lie?”

Is 2014 becoming the year of Ryan Adams?

Maybe, because he’s maintained an intense schedule since returning to the spotlight, and he’s not finished yet; we’ve learned from Consequence of Sound that he’s accepted an offer to score Danny Collins, an upcoming Al Pacino film. And, in early December, Adams will release his next 7-inch single, “Do You Laugh When You Lie?”

Before we jump into exploring Ryan Adams’s future plans, let’s take a look back at his accomplishments this year. He released an acclaimed solo album and an infomercial; owns his own record label and has been releasing series of vinyl singles; played Austin City Limits; teamed up with Johnny Depp to cover Danzig classic; performed a classic 80’s ballad; paid homage to Bryan Adams, and made up song on the fly at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. In addition, he continues to tour regularly and has announced a series of December tour dates.

After that whirlwind, we find Adams collaborating once again with Theodore Shapiro on Danny Collins, a dramatic comedy about an aging rock star who decides to change his life and attempts to forge new relationships, after reading a letter addressed to him from legendary songwriter – and one of the Beatles – John Lennon. In addition to Pacino in the title role, the film features a star-studded cast that includes Annette Bening, Jennifer Garner, and Christopher Plummer, according to Film Music Reporter. In addition to the songs written by Adams and Shapiro, the film will feature several John Lennon songs in the soundtrack. The film – according to IMDB – is complete and will be released in 2015.

Speaking of release dates, “Do You Laugh When You Lie?” is out on December 7th, 2014. In addition to the title track, the album – yes, actually vinyl – will contain two more tracks on the B-side. The B-side tracks are “By The Way” and “I’m In Love With You”.

We have a video of Ryan Adams performing the title track at a recent show in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The video is shot from the audience; so, there is a bit of shaky camera work, but the audio is clear. “Do You Laugh When You Lie?” is reminiscent in arrangement and tempo to several classic Tom Petty songs, but features a chorus with harmonies that evoke shades of Fleetwood Mac.
