Screaming Females Announce New Album Rose Mountain For February 2015 Release

New Jersey DIY punk rock band Screaming Females have announced new album Rose Mountain, and have released new single “Ripe.”

New Jersey punk trio Screaming Females have announced new album Rose Mountain, due out February 2015 on Don Giovanni Records.

According to a recent press release, Rose Mountain is the band’s fifth album and marks their ten year duration as a band, and is the first studio album that wasn’t self-produced. The band broke their rule to bring in producer Matt Bayles, who has worked with bands like Mastadon and The Sword.

The band has also released their first single from the album, “Ripe,” which features lead singer Marissa Paternoster’s power vocals, and clear melodic guitars. The video released for the song features the trio humorously staring unmoving into the camera for the duration of the video.

Screaming Females, which includes band members Marissa Paternoster on guitar and vocals, Michael Abbate on bass, and Jarrett Dougherty on drums, formed back in 2005 when Paternoster and Abbate were in high school. They got their start at a basement show in New Jersey, and have continued playing in basements and houses to allow their fans who are 21 and under to attend. The band has gotten wider exposure through performances on NPR, Last Call with Carson Daly, and MTV.

The DIY band self-released their first two albums before they signed on with Don Giovanni Records, who rereleased their first two LPs in 2009. With almost all of their work self-produced, they brought on audio engineer Steve Albini to work on their last LP Ugly and on their 2014 concert album Live at the Hideout.

After contracting mononucleosis in May of 2012, lead singer Paternoster told Village Voice that she experienced such a pain that left her unable to sing or play guitar for months, which resulted in Screaming Females ending their previous tour early. Paternoster stated that recovery was slow,

“Through a lot of physical therapy, a tweaked diet, and exercise, I’ve been able to navigate through the chronic aches relatively well. It’s been slow going, but I’m definitely moving forward as far as my recovery is concerned.”

Following Paternoster’s troubles, the band released their last EP 2013’s Chalk Tape, which streamed online and was released as a limited edition cassette tape. Pitchfork’s Steven Hyden stated about their latest EP, “Chalk Tape could wind up as an important transitional milestone on the way to a future breakthrough but for now, it’s a very engaging record on its own.”

After the release of Chalk Tape, the band went on tour with label mates Waxahatchee and Tenement. The band has also performed with Dinosaur Jr., Titus Andronicus, The Julie Ruin, and most recently toured with band PUJOL.

Screaming Females new album Rose Mountain will be released February, 2015, on Don Giovanni Records.
