We know very little about them aside from the fact that they call themselves “the one and only PPL MVR,” and that they have names. The white creature calls itself SNWBLL, the brown beast is Q, and the black leviathan is K-PO (who, strangely enough, doesn’t use a capo on his bass guitar. Isn’t that bonkers?!). I’m not quite sure what to make of this group, yet I feel the need to issue the following warning: they shoot lasers out of their eyes and mouths. Do not attempt to anger them. Also, apparently vowels are anathema to them. They really like consonants. I mean, they REALLY LIKE CONSONANTS.
Now that you know what they are, we can talk about the music. The one and only PPL MVR are a three-piece group, and they play loud, thumpy rock music, and their vocals are autotuned a bit, and they like thrashing around on set, and they shoot lasers. These guys look like the monkeys from 2001: A Space Oddyssey, and they sound like a heavy rock group of mastadonian proportions. And they shoot lasers.
The video for the track “People Mover,” is very simple in its initial presentation. We see the group begin to play the song, and then suddenly we’re hit with a variety of cuts of the members gazing wide-eyed and angry at the camera. They don’t quite thrash around on the stage, but they definitely stomp the ground in a furious manner. Clearly this is their territory and nobody’s going to take it away from them without a fight. The drums on this track are beaten with such heavy strikes, that I’m not sure if I’m meant to think of them as the drums of war, or if Q just really likes beating his kit into submission for no particular reason other than rocking hard. Their sound is a heavy, stomping leviathan of insurmountable power, and I love it. They also shoot lasers.
Information on this group remains relatively unknown beyond the names of the individual members and the name of the group, but these creatures have been seen around the Los Angeles area from time to time. One can only hope that we will be blessed with the privilege of seeing their animal instincts unleashed on a crowd of music lovers soon. For now, we only have this video.
