Swedish singer-songwriter Jose Gonzalez has released a video for his new single “Every Age,” off his upcoming album Vestiges & Claws.
Swedish singer-songwriter Jose Gonzalez has released a new atmospheric video for the song “Every Age,” off his newest album Vestiges & Claws, which will be released February 17th.
According to a recent press release, the video was produced by Eyes In Space, a global collective that aims to expose everyone to the beauty of outer space, and was directed by Simon Morris and Chris Higham.
Director Simon Morris stated,
“Basically its the realization that we are a fragile blue ball filled with life floating in the void and darkness space. We wanted to give everyone the opportunity to roam space freely using a unique video capturing technique.”
The video begins with a camera being attached to a cluster of balloons, over which Gonzalez sings, “Every age has its turn/Every branch of a tree has to learn.”
The video takes us on a trip above the Earth, showing breathtaking images of the sky and the atmosphere, before traveling into outer space. Gonzalez stated about the lyrics, “The lyrics [of “Every Age”] fit well in the sense of living on a globe together and how it can make us wonder and reflect on how we can make this the best trip ever!”
Jose Gonzalez, a Swedish native who was born after his family fled a war in Argentina, released his first album Veneer in 2003, which went platinum and reached number 2 on the UK charts. His second album, In Our Nature, was released in 2007, and reached number 8 on the UK charts. His third album Vestige & Claws, coming out in 2015, was self-produced in Gonzalez’s home. He recently stated about the album, “I didn’t want this to be too polished, or too ‘in your face.’ Most of all, it’s fun to be in complete control of the artistic aspect.”
In the seven years in between his last two albums, Gonzalez also released albums for his Swedish folk-rock band Junip, a duo with Tobias Winterkorn. Junip released their first album Fields in 2010, followed by a second self-titled album in 2013.
Jose Gonzalez’s next album Vestiges & Claws features all original material with inspiration found in 70s Brazilian productions and the American folk rock.
The first band Gonzalez played in was a far cry from American folk, called Back Against the Wall, a hardcore punk band, which was influenced by the Dead Kennedys and The Misfits. Gonzalez’s first solo release garnered the attention of Imperial Records, who signed Gonzalez as their first talent, prompting Gonzalez to drop out of his biochemistry PHD program.
In regards to his new album, Gonzalez stated,
“I think that might be where there is some sort of common thread on this new record: The zoomed out eye on humanity on a small pale blue dot in a cold, sparse and unfriendly space. The amazing fact that we are here at all, an aim to encourage us to understand ourselves and to make the best of the one life we know we have — after birth and before death.
