According to Loudwire, alt-rock band The Smashing Pumpkins have released a new song “One and All,” off their new album Monuments to an Elegy. The Smashing Pumpkins are releasing two new albums, Monuments to an Elegy and Day to Night, following a new record deal with BMG.

On the band’s new website Panopticon, lead singer and founding member Billy Corgan announced that Tommy Lee of Motley Crue would be playing drums on their new album Monuments to an Elegy, after it was confirmed that drummer Mike Byrne had left the band. In an interview with Music Radar, all Billy Corgan said in response to Mike Byrne’s departure was, “Mike, like Elvis, has left the building.”

Lineup changes in The Smashing Pumpkins is not uncommon; When the band toured in 2006 in promotion for the album Zeitgeist the band had a rotating lineup of nine musicians. As of 2014, Billy Corgan and guitarist Jeff Schroeder are the only official core members of the band.

The Smashing Pumpkins have a tumultuous history featuring the death of a band member, drug addiction, rumored tyrannical leadership by Corgan, and a break up in 2001.

The band reunited in 2007 with Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain as the only original members and released the album Zeitgeist. After the replacement of Chamberlain with Mike Byrnes, Smashing Pumpkins released Oceania to positive reviews, with the album debuting at number one on the Billboard Independent. After releasing Oceania in 2012, the band toured extensively, including a performance at Glastonbury Festival.

Since the announcement of their latest album, Corgan announced a new band website called Panopticon, which features daily updates by the band of the process of making their latest album.

Although the band has not always been in the favor of the media or of the indie music scene, The Smashing Pumpkins alt-rock influence has spread over a wide range of artists for the last two decades, from My Chemical Romance to Nelly Furtado to Muse.

Their latest album, Monuments to an Elegy, will be released December 9th, 2014, with songs “Being Beige” and “One and All” being the first songs released from the album. “One and All,” which features a heavier guitar sound going back to the band’s early days, hears Billy Corgan sing, “One and all / We are, we are so young / We’re young, we’re young.”

Corgan told Huffington Post, “”I basically sang the whole song the first time I wrote it. “It had written itself.”
