Axwell ^ Ingrosso, two thirds of the legendary Swedish Mafia are redefining acid house with the first track “Can’t Hold Us Down” off their debut album scheduled for release in 2015.
The first official single from the duos forthcoming album will be released by the end of 2014 on Def Jam Recordings in the U.S. and Virgin/EMI in the UK, but have given the world a taste with “Can’t Hold Us Down”.
The highly anticipated album will be the first studio album not only by Axwell ^ Ingrosso, but by any of the members of their former group Swedish House Mafia who despite selling over 10 million copies worldwide only dropped two compilations, 2010’s Until One and 2012’s Until Now.
“Can’t Hold Us Down” is a very well-produced dance hit, filled with electro grooves, dub step bass leads, slick high hat patterns and a repetitious robotic voice giving the song life going back and forth between, “can’t hold us down,” and “down, down, down, down.” The first real break in the song comes a third of the way through when the beat totally cuts out and then comes back in with the title repeating over a kick, a lazor sequence until the vocals change up to, “no one can hold us down, I’m walking ten feet off the ground, every time that you’re around,” which leads to the entire beat changing to a Daft Punk like arrangement, and then kicks all the way out.
Axwell ^ Ingrosso’s original group, Swedish House Mafia is best known for selling out Madison Square Garden back in 2012 in just nine minutes without the existence of an album. mxdwn reported the band would play its last show together in November of 2012, after playing Miami’s Ultra Music Festival in March of 2013.
Axwell ^ Ingrosso first appeared as a duo on Zane Lowe’s show in March of 2014.
Tonight the duo will be starting their campaign with the world premiere of ‘Can’t Hold Us Down,’ The Hottest Record In The World on influential BBC Radio 1 presenter Zane Lowe’s show.
