It is days away until the release of the Foo Fighter’s new album Sonic Highways, and Foo Fighters have released the third track “Congregation”.
This song was recorded in Nashville at the Southern Ground Studio with input from country star Zac Brown, according to Consequence of Sound.
The guitar steals the show right from the start of the song. The tune does have a Southern ring to it as if picking up on the vibes of the city where it was recorded and trying to capture Nashville’s essence. There’s still a good deal of rock and roll shining through and points of intense singing.
About three quarters through the song, the tune holds angst in the guitar strumming and the singing, and is a good deal more repetitive. It changes quite drastically and then falls back into the main tune at the end.
For this album, the Foo Fighters recorded songs in the famous studios of eight different cities throughout the country. So far the rock band has also released this month “The Feast And The Famine” recorded in Washington D.C. and “Something From Nothing”, which was recorded in Chicago.
There is also a documentary of the Foo Fighter’s recording of this album, which premiered on HBO on October 17, named after the title of the album.
The band has been extremely busy lately. They also performed on the Late Show with David Letterman for five days, from October 13 through October 17, having special guests join them in their performances each night, including Zac Brown, the band Heart, and Rick Nielson (Cheap Trick).
Neilson was a guest contributor on Sonic Highways, as well as Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie), and Joe Walsh of The Eagles.
