In Sharon Van Etten’s powerful ballad, “Your Love Is Killing Me”, she speaks of a tragic love story that has become psychologically draining. Sean Durkin, director of critically-acclaimed “Martha Marcy May Marlene”, has undertaken the difficult task of adapting her tragically pained words into a music video for Etten. The results? A video that is not only moving, but heartbreaking.

Durkin’s music video debut stars Carla Juri of “Wetlands”, shown with messy, unkempt blonde hair accompanied by a look of sadness and despair plastered on her face. While the video opens with a mild confrontation with the bartender, it is the woman’s walk through NYC towards an unknown location that leaves the viewer inquisitive of her destination.

In the final moments of the video, the intoxicated woman’s intentions are revealed. The shocking conclusion provides a compelling finale for Etten’s aching lyrics.

Watch the culmination of events in the video below.
