GWAR covered two ’80s tracks, “West End Girls” by The Pet Shop Boys and “People Who Died” by Jim Carroll, as part of the A.V. Club’s A.V. Undercover Series. The performance was a tribute to former band member Oderus Ungerus.
GWAR has had no shortage of tributes to former frontman Dave Brockie, better known as Oderus Ungerus. After his death in March, fans gave him a Viking funeral at the 5th annual GWAR-B-Q in August. The band is also honoring Brockie at an art gallery event in Los Angeles from October 25 until November 6.
This is the third time GWAR has appeared as part of the A.V. Undercover Series, but it’s the first time with new members Blothar (Michael Bishop) and Vulvatron (Kim Dylla). The first time was in October 2012, and the band played “Carry On My Wayward Son” by Kansas. The second performance, in October 2013, involved covers of “Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car” by Billy Ocean and “Baba O’Riley” by The Who. At this rate, we may get new covers from GWAR every October – this year, they performed “West End Girls” and “People Who Died.” Watch the tribute show in the video below.
GWAR is on tour this fall throughout North America, and will be releasing a documentary entitled “Let There Be GWAR.” The release date for the film is unknown, but they released a trailer in September 2014.
