The CMJ Music Marathon has brought some of the most talented musicians into the festival like the Secret Chiefs 3 who performed at the Le Poisson Rouge.
Non-stop heavy, raw metal would describe Secret Chiefs 3’s showcase tonight at the music venue. There were times the band would cool the audience down with a somewhat softer melody at the beginning of a song, only to again hit them with a fire of hard rock. Fans were circled around the stage which was in the center of the room. Lights lit up the stage so that only Secret Chiefs 3 could be seen, as they played a lot of the hardcore jams from their albums and a few new releases one of which was a 7-inch single.
The room was deafening loud. The drummer had his shirt off and was sweating hard, while he banged every part of his drum kit with an aggressive passion and a whole lot of energy. The vocalist definitely added a lot of energy to the mix with his screaming abilities. This had been one of the strongest parts of the show, because the crowd seemed to react more to the songs with screamo.
Secret Chiefs 3 overall did a great job livening up the crowd. Although there weren’t any noticeable headbangers, there was still a lot of energy coming from both the band and the crowd. And there is more to come from the CMJ Music Marathon this week. This was only the beginning, and the first day has proven that this will definitely be a fun rest of the festival.
