London grime/dubstep producer The Bug realeases new video “Mi Lost,” featuring Miss Red, off his latest EP Exit.
The Bug, London producer Kevin Martin, has released a new video for song, “Mi Lost” featuring Miss Red, from his latest EP Exit.
According to a recent press release, the song “Mi Lost,” which features MC/singer Miss Red, was inspired by the small community life of Haifa, a city north of Israel. The video tries to capture the feeling of living in the small community, but wanting more from life.
The video was shot with a small crew in Haifa, Miss Red’s hometown, and features Miss Red singing with red lipstick and drawn on tears clouded with camera effects. With Miss Red singing in crowded rooms full of young people looking bored out of their minds, the video accurately conveys being stuck in a confined space and wanting to get out and search for something more.
Miss Red wasn’t The Bug’s only collaboration on his new album, he also worked with artists Death Grips, Liz Harris, Flowdan, Manga, Warrior Queen, Gonjasufi, Justin Broadrick, and Copeland.
In 1997, dancehall, grime, and dubstep producer The Bug released his first album on the Wordsound label called Tapping the Conversation, which was an alternative soundtrack to the 1974 Francis Ford Coppola movie, The Conversation, which also included DJ Vadim.
Between 2001-2004, The Bug focused his time on collaborations with UK’s The Rootsman, which resulted in multiple 7” singles released on the Razor X label. In 2003, The Bug released his second studio album Pressure, off Rephlex Records, which included dubstep and ragga-influenced tracks.
In 2006, The Bug and dubstep producer Loehfah launched a London-based reggae night club called BASH, and The Bug started a female-vocalist label called Lady Bug. In 2008, The Bug released his third album London Zoo on label Ninja Tune, which was met with critical acclaim.
The Bug has also done projects in collaborations with artists such as Cutty Ranks, Warrior Queen, Ras B, Mark Stewart, Daddy Freddy, Experimental Audio Research, Alec Empire, Vast Aire, and Flow Dan.
In a recent interview with Red Bull Music Academy, The Bug said “I wanted to make records – and I still want to make records – that will make peoples’ jaws drop.”
Martin appears to be on the right track, in a recent review Pitchfork said of the songs on Angels & Devils “These tracks surge, bleeding adrenaline: Martin sows chaos and his collaborators keep things just under control.”
In his latest video release, The Bug showcases his classic grime sound with the alluring voice of Miss Red.
The Bug’s North American tour with Wolf Eyes, Manga, and Flow Dan, kicks off October 24th in Mexico.
