English electronic dance music duo Orbital, have officially called it quits once again. This marks their second breakup since their formation in 1989.
Brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll recently announced their second career breakup. On their official group website, Paul expressed that “nothing lasts forever and it’s time to stop.” The statement further explains that Paul’s new solo project, 8:58, has become his current priority. Despite the breakup, Paul reassures that during his future live shows he will be playing a combination of both his new music and his Orbital favorites.
Formed in 1989, the duo’s first career breakup occurred after fifteen-year run. Following the release of their record “The Blue Album” in June of 2004, the group officially disbanded. The pair performed a 20th anniversary show in 2008, their first since their mid-‘00s breakup. In 2009, the Hartnoll brothers revealed that they would reform their collaboration with a headlining spot at The Big Chill, as well as a number of live shows. Orbital came back with a bang in 2010, reuniting for a grand total of 9 festival shows.
In 2012, Orbital released their first full-length record in eight years entitled Wonky. It featured collaborations with artists Zola Jesus and MC Lady Leshurr. Wonky marks the duo’s eighth and final studio album.
