Sleater Kinney’s New Box Set Includes Possibly New Song “Bury Our Friends”

Sleater-Kinney’s newest box set features a previously unreleased track supposedly titled “Bury Our Friends.” The single was featured on a 7″ vinyl pressing that only featured the date 1/20/15 on the record label. Could this be a coded message from Sleater-Kinney in regards to a possible reunion of the group?

Fans of the group Sleater-Kinney have been clamoring for a reunion ever since they reunited on stage with Pearl Jam back in December, however they have been simply that: rumors. Since the dissolution of the band each of the members have gone off to pursue other musical interests. Drummer Janet Weiss and Carrie Brownstein broke off to form Wild Flag, and Corin Tucker teamed up with R.E.M.s Peter Buck to form super-Earth. Since that time, however, Wild Flag has broken up as group and Sleater-Kinney recently announced reissue of their catalog.

The box set, which has just started to arrive in the mail, may include coded message relating to a possible reunion, according to a recent Stereogum article. Fans who have already received the box set are going ape over what they perceive to be a brand new song, allegedly titled “Bury Our Friends,” which came on a fresh 7″ vinyl pressing. Oddly enough, little was featured on the record label aside from the date 1/20/15, lending a lot of speculation to the bands immediate future. While the supposedly new song has never before been released, it feels like a fresh new recording in many ways. It seems too ripe for it to have come out of the groups back catalog, and yet it feels like classic Sleater-Kinney. Twitter has been flooded with posts that only add to the rumor mill:

While Carrie Brownstein herself has been mum on both hers and the groups future, it seems as though we haven’t quite seen the true end of Sleater-Kinney quite yet.
