Alt-rock band Foo Fighters played Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” with country star Zac Brown on Monday night’s Late Show with David Letterman.
The performance kicked off a five-day residency for the Foo Fighters on Letterman’s show. The group is promoting their latest album, Sonic Highways, which will be released November 10. Each night of the residency will bring a new guest star as well.
The cover of “War Pigs” was cut to only four minutes, but that doesn’t mean the song sounded any less hardcore. The whole performance included loud drums and guitar riffs, all supporting Brown’s powerful vocals. And in case you’re wondering, Grohl got his share of headbanging.
On Friday, at the end of their week with Letterman, Foo Fighters’ new show Sonic Highways will premiere. It’s an HBO docuseries about creating the album of the same name, which will be the band’s eighth studio album. The LP includes eight songs, each recorded in different city, and the docuseries will follow the group to each location. They released a trailer for the show in August.
Also putting the Foo Fighters on the map, so to speak, is a crowdfunded show in Richmond, Virginia. Fans in the town organized an officially-nonexistent concert and gained enough money and attention to get the band to play there in September. Based on the success of that venture, British fans of the rockers have begun Kickstarter campaign to urge the band to perform in Birmingham, England, in 2015. They’ve even timed it so that the show would coincide with Sonic Highways promotion across the pond, and they exceeded their monetary goal in September. It still remains to be seen whether this campaign will work as well as the last.
