Ty Segall has just released a video for his song “The Singer.”
The song is the third soundtrack on his 7th solo album Manipulator which came out at the end of August this year.
The video begins with Segall close to the video camera like he is alone recording this. The indie rock musician sings and plays guitar standing in the middle of what looks like a messy apartment for most of the video. When the other band members musical instruments come into the song, the musicians appear in the room as well, but they are transparent, almost like apparitions. It makes it seem as though Segall is still the only one in the room.
If you pay careful attention you can see the violinist appear, disappear and reappear throughout the song. When he is in the song, he can be seen creating music sitting on top of the fridge.
Segall is very animated throughout the song, although he doesn’t move from the same spot for most of it. Towards the end, the other musicians fade out and it becomes just Segall floating around as he plays a great guitar solo. Light beams end up shooting out of his guitar to add to the intensity.
The band members appear back in their weird transparent state when the guitar solo is done. Segall stays floating in the air until the the very end of the song, when he suddenly collapses to the ground as if falling back to reality. His buddies are gone and he looks around at an empty room. It is as if he got very lost in the song and he imagined the various other instruments and musicians, then came back to a rude awakening.
