This week, South Park explored a storyline about gender identity that involves Lorde in an episode entitled, “The Cissy”. At the start of the episode, Cartman – one of the main boy characters in South Park – concludes that he can use the girl’s bathroom at school, if he identifies as transgender. Middle-aged Randy Marsh is revealed to be doing the same – identifying as trans* to use the women’s toilet at his workplace.

Next, it is revealed that Marsh dreams of being a pop singer. In his spare time, he has been recording demo tracks, and manipulating his vocals using studio effects and Auto-Tune. Eventually, he realizes that he has true talent, apart from singing in the toilet, and begins to accept his alter ego.

These two South Park spoofs were not lost on (the real) Lorde, who posted her reaction on Twitter. She wrote:

And, then she wrote that she doesn’t watch the show, but was nonetheless pleased with the depiction.

Australian singer-songwriter, Sia, provided the vocals on one of the spoofed songs, “Feeling Good On A Wednesday”, according to Consequence of Sound.

Sia is best known as a songwriter for other artists. She’s written material for Rihanna, Katy Perry, Flo Rida, Céline Dion, and Beyoncé. In July, Sia stepped out from the shadows when she released her sixth solo album, 1000 Forms of Fear, that featured the hit single Chandelier.
