Clutch is an American rock band based out of Frederick, Maryland. They met while in high school in Germantown and consider themselves a Fredrick based band where they write/rehearse for every album/tour. The band formed in 1990, and since its formation the lineup has included Neil Fallon, Tim Sult, Dan Maines, and Jean-Paul Gaster. To date, Clutch has released ten studio albums, and several live albums. They are signed to their own label Weathermaker.
In 2012, Clutch announced their tenth album, Earth Rocker. The album was released in 2013 and entered the Billboard Top 200 chart at number 15, the bands highest charting album to date. It stayed there for five weeks. The album also reached number four on iTunes overall Top 100 album charts, and was number one on the rock chart. Earth Rocker got ‘album of the year’ 2013 by Metalhammer magazine, and was rated highly on a lot of rock/metal magazines and websites end of the year top 10’s.
In interviews throughout their 2014 European tour, the bands members were candid about their intention to release a new album. In an interview at DesertFest in Berlin, Neil Fallon said, “We’re looking to do another record in November… my focus now is the next Clutch record, and everyone else in the band for that matter too [is focused on the next Clutch record].”
