The band performed at Chile’s Movistar Arena just a few days ago. Now, the blistering two-hour performance is up for the world to see.
Plane tickets are expensive. As much as we’d all probably love to fly somewhere warm to check out one of our favorite bands, this just isn’t possible on a budget.
Luckily, Queens of the Stone Age have us covered. The band is featured in a high-quality video of their entire set at Chile’s Movistar Arena on October 5.
The final product is like having a backstage pass to the event. The cameras cut from scenes in the crowd to close-up shots of singer Josh Homme. The sound quality makes you feel like you’re standing right there in Santiago, watching the band tear through some of their heaviest hits.
Some of the most notable songs in the setlist include classics like “Go With The Flow,” “No One Knows” and “Feel Good Hit Of The Summer,” but Queens of the Stone Age pulled out a few lesser-known tunes as well. All-in-all, the video features 20 songs from these stoner rock legends.
Queens of the Stone Age is one of many bands to embrace professional concert films. It beats the hell out of squinting at a bad iPhone recording taken by some guy who hasn’t learned how to shoot horizontally. With thousands of horrible concert videos posted every day on YouTube, one where you can actually see the band and hear what the singer is saying certainly cuts through the crowd.
The band’s performance is spot-on, with the crowd screaming along to the words of nearly every song. Queens of the Stone Age use their infamous wall of sound, cut with creepy, quiet moments of piano melodies. The crowd is enormous, but in these still moments, the show seems almost intimate.
Ending the set with a sonic mountain of feedback, Josh Homme’s guitar strung over his microphone stand like a necktie, Queens of the Stone Age walk off stage to a roaring audience. They ended the video with an encore of the somewhat-fitting songs “Mexicola” and “A Song For The Dead.”
The band has always been into the macabre. Their last album …Like Clockwork was inspired by singer Homme’s near-death experience. What better way to spend the month of October than with a creepy Halloween show? The band is enlisting the help of former bassist Nick Oliveri for the special show at The Forum in Los Angeles.
Now that their summer tour has wrapped up, we can expect new material from the band soon. They announced they will be working on a new album this year, so get ready for your heavy rock fix.
