Guano Padano Announces New Album Americana For November 2014 Release

Italian musical trio Guano Padano are coming back into the spotlight with the release of their next record, Americana, set to come out November this year. The album itself lends some historical and cultural significance for the group, as the record itself was inspired by an underground literary movement.

The title of the album and the songs found on the record are inspired by a literary anthology of the same name edited by Elio Vittorini in the 1940s. The anthology itself was banned in fascist Italy for its praise of American literature, which flew in the face of the regimes dictate that any open appreciation for foreign cultures other than Germany was forbidden, forcing the editors and various translators of the anthology to publish and distribute the collection in secrecy. Guano Padano attempts to compose a musical framework for works by various authors such as William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, and Sherwood Anderson. While Guano Padanos music has more of a western, surf music kind of style, Americana hearkens back to one of the richest periods in literary history, and the sound of that tribute puts you right into that frame of mind. It’s as though the group wants you to ride some tasty waves while simultaneously skimming through chapters of For Whom The Bell Tolls.

Americana will be available in stores on November 4th. Make sure to view the video for “Pian della Tortilla,” a single off of the upcoming record, as it gives a little more insight into the inspiration for the record.
