Velvet Underground are planning a big reminder of themselves with a massive reissue of their ‘The Velvet Underground’ album, set to celebrate its 45th anniversary this fall.
A six-disc box set, total of 65 tracks, will include reworked and alternate mixes for the self-titled album, live recordings from The Matrix in San Francisco, and a case-bound book with liner notes penned by Rolling Stone writer David Fricke.
“We were all feeling good,” bassist Doug Yule told David Fricke for the release’s liner notes. “All we had to do was play, and it showed. That comes out in a band. You get tight, and you get creative.”
‘The Velvet Underground’, band’s first record without its co-founding member John Cale, features classic songs like Candy Says, Pale Blue Eyes and After Hours, and was the first album, produced and arranged by the band themselves, according to The Guardian. Lou Reed, co-founder and the heart of Velvets, who passed away October 2013, is noted as saying about the album in David Fricke’s liner notes: “I thought we had to demonstrate the other side of us.”
The reissue follows deluxe, 45th-anniversary box sets for the group’s 1967 debut, The Velvet Underground and Nico, which came out in 2012, and White Light/White Heat, which came out in 2013.
The Velvet Underground – 45th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition, is out on November 24th, also mastered for iTunes and HD audio formats.
