Vanishing Life is the name of a new supergroup of musicians, and you can already hear them together for the first time on the new track “People Running.”
The group is made up of vocalist and guitarist Walter Schreifels from Quicksand, guitarist Zach Blair from Rise Against, drummer Jamie Miller from …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, and bassist Autry Fulbright, who belongs to both …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead and Midnight Masses. Vanishing Life was first conceived at Belgium’s Groezrock Festival in 2013, when each member was scheduled to perform with their respective band. Each band was also going to play alongside Geoff Rickly of Thursday and Norman Brannon of Texas is the Reason, both of whom are principals of Collect Records.
Schreifels and Fulbright met up again later that year, then were impressed by Blair’s performance at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin. The group was finally formed when they added Miller to the lineup. Rickly says Collect Records was founded to “give great records a supportive home,” which is exactly what they did for Vanishing Life.
The supergroup’s first song release, “People Running,” is a fast-paced, chaotic track. There is no warm-up period at the beginning or cool down period at the end – the whole thing is like jumping right into the middle of an upbeat alternative rock song. The track features catchy riffs but it only lasts a minute and 50 seconds, which pretty much guarantees that fans will be listening to it on repeat. The track, which you can stream below, was written by drummer Jamie Miller.
Despite the fact that the four musicians had never all played in a room together before they began recording the 7″ record, it took them only two days to perfect the sound of the two songs that appear on it, according to an interview with vocalist Walter Schreifels.
Vanishing Life’s debut 7″ release and digital EP will be available on October 14 and will feature “People Running.” They are planning on releasing a full-length album with Collect Records in 2015. The band’s live debut will take place October 18, when they have two indoor shows: one at New York City’s Generation Records at 2 p.m. and another at West Babylon’s Looney Tunes Records at 6 p.m. Both shows will feature a brief set by the band as well as a signing.
