Lorde has released a new song “Yellow Flicker Beat”. The song is one of the many off the highly anticipated soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.

On September 22 Lorde teased her fans and those of The Hunger Games trilogy by releasing both the cover art and title for her new song. Days later she is at it again through the official release of the first song off of the soundtrack.
In addition to her contribution of the first track for the album, Lorde was also bestowed the task of curating the entire soundtrack. According to Pitchfork, Lorde commented on her responsibilities stating, “The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people.”
In relation to “Yellow Flicker Beat”, Lorde expressed that she was pleased with the results. On her tumblr, Lorde posted a note to fans about the new song. Lorde writes, “now, about this song – yellow flicker beat. it’s my first offering from what i hope will be a soundtrack you love. it’s my attempt at getting inside her head, katniss’. i hope you like it.”
She goes on to thank her fans for inspiring her to love stronger which ultimately gives her the drive to keep writing music. Lorde writes, “but most of all, my capacity for love. the thousands upon thousands (wait, millions(?!!)) of you who bought pure heroine truly feel like friends to me – it’s no coincidence i’m posting this note here, where i feel the most happy and safe online, the place where i laugh the most and where every day, i feel like people get me. i never knew i could feel such a warm heart for this many people at once. thankyou for hearing about me all those months ago, and sticking around. thankyou for being here.
