WATCH: Death From Above 1979 Release New Trailer For A Documentary About The Band

A new trailer has been released that gives viewers a sneak peak of the documentary highlighting the history of the band Death From Above 1979.

Life After Death From Above 1979 will cover the Canadian dance-punk duo’s first run and their initial following, what caused their long break up, and their eventual reunion. The film is set to be released on Vimeo On Demand on October 7.

The band’s first full-length album, You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine, was released in 2004 and after a long tour, bassist Jesse Keeler and drummer Sebastien Grainger, went separate ways in 2006. They reportedly did not speak to each other for more than five years.

The Canadian duo reunited in 2011. Grainger said that he had a hard time even hearing the band’s name when they were apart and it was difficult to keep going through that. He didn’t want to keep having problems with Keeler, he said in an interview with Rolling Stone. To read more about the band coming back together, go here.

This month they released a second album called The Physical World, which is a great blend of dance music and punk rock. To read more about this album, click here.

Life After Death From Above 1979 is directed by Eva Michon. There are interviews from Grainger and Keeler, as well as from members of Justice, The Strokes, Metric, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and others.

The trailer for the documentary begins by capturing the excitement and thrill that surrounded the band at the beginning, but then came to a sudden halt. There are clips shown of rowdy crowds and the band’s earlier performances. Both Grainger and Keeler discuss how the tour was hard on them and how they were constantly at odds with each other and miserable. Then we are shown scenes of the band starting to come back together. Footage from their performance at 2011’s Coachella festival is played.

For fans of the band, the documentary definitely promises to be a must-see that will shed light on what happened behind the scenes of Death From Above 1979‘s rise and fall, and now their new beginning. Even people who are not necessarily huge fans of the band might find that the trailer peaks their interest.
