LISTEN: Carl Barat And The Jackals Release New Song Glory Days

On the precipice of a three-night stand at the Alexandra Palace in London, Carl Barat and his new band the Jackals are celebrating with the release of “Glory Days,” a new single off of their upcoming record.

After using the almighty power of social media, Carl Barat has successfully put together a new band, the Jackals, and the result sounds like something very akin to the Clash at the peak of their powers. While “Glory Days” doesn’t quite feature the same angsty, fast-tempo force of a song like “I Fought The Law,” the influence is clearly felt in the song, both musically and vocally. Carl Barat sounds so very similar to Joe Strummer that I can’t tell where the mid-seventies ends and 2014 begins. A sonically punk single with a legitimate British feel, “Glory Days” doesn’t just offer a glimpse into the potential of the as-of-yet-untitled records, but instead acts as a mushroom cloud signaling the point of origin of what is sure to be an explosive album.

Rather than produce the record as a solo artist, Barat placed several ads online, and used the power of social media to assemble a new band of brothers to bring the true vision of this record to life. The album is slated for an early 2015 release, so feel free to whet your appetite with “Glory Days” in the meantime. The Jackals are comprised of Carl Barat (vocals/guitar), Billy Tessio (guitar), Adam Claxton (Bass), and Jay Bone (Drums).
