From NPR’s All Song’s Considered comes tiny desk concerts: a series of intimate performances. Jeff Tweedy and his son Spencer take the stage in this installment.
The father-son duo have created 20 new songs as Tweedy for the new album Sukierae. NPR calls the material “strong, personal, and bare.” The Tiny Desk series really makes this true. The performance is in a little library looking space, and it’s just the Tweedy men, without their full band lineup. It’s incredibly personal, feeling more like a performance they’d give to close friends. It’s casual and easy-going. Jeff says: “I don’t know how many songs we’re supposed to play… there are twenty songs on the record, we can play most of them, I don’t know, there’s nothing happening in the world, right?” And later jokes, to good natured laughter, that “Spencer and I are gonna reveal our strategy for ISIS later also.”
Bob Boilen notes in his article about the performance that there’s really something special, “heartwarming,” and sentimental about watching family perform- and that really comes across in this episode of Tiny Desk. You don’t want to miss it.
Tweedy performs the following songs (which you can watch below): “Wait for Love,” “New Moon,” “Low Key,” and “You are Not Alone.”
Also be sure to check out the other songs from Sukierae- “Flowering”, “Fake Fur Coat.”
