Ryan Adams faded away from the front of the stage for a scant few seconds, and in his place came Johnny Depp, who filled the void with a weepy, yet blistering guitar solo that brought the house down.
Ryan Adams and Johnny Depp teamed up at the 02’s Shepher’s Bush Empire venue to cover Danzig’s “Mother,” and the resulting sound of that cover was enough to stir the audience to cheer. Depp’s guitar playing abilities have come into their own over the last few years, emerging here as a promising soloist. When the smoke cleared from the solo and the song was over, the crowd’s chants of “Johnny! Johnny! Johnny!” filled the arena, letting the actor know that they clearly approved of his ability to work an axe. As noted by Rolling Stone, Depp’s willingness to take the stage with other legendary artists has lead to a few remarkable projects with the likes of Paul McCartney and Elvis Costello. Here’s hoping for many more live performances from the well-respected actor. Be sure to catch the video for the performance of “Mother” right here.
