Jack White Says His Comments About Foo Fighters Were A Joke

During a show at Boston’s Fenway Park on Sept. 17th, 2014, rocker Jack White delivered what he has termed “a Kanye West-eqsue” rant. However, White has since clarified his comments through his publicist, who stated, “Jack White made a joke onstage.”

In the nearly 4 minute rant, said to have taken place as a means of keeping the audience engaged during a guitar malfunction, White chastised the Foo Fighters for having two guitarists, and mocked Rolling Stone’s “click-baiting” website headlines. The Rolling Stone portion of the rant included wisecracks about the Kardashians and country-pop singer, Taylor Swift.

White started to wrap up his remarks by saying that he realized it was becoming “Kanye West-esque.” And, he ended by saying, “forget ISIS, forget the war in the Middle East, forget any problems at home, forget gay marriage, forget everything you ever thought about everything. This not a rant. This is just me saying, HELLO CLEVELAND!,” according to Pitchfork.

The following day, according to Consequence of Sound, the Foo Fighters tweeted this:

Now, both White and the Foo Fighters, have issued a statement through their shared publicist. It reads,

“Dear dream-makers of the media….

Last night Jack White made a joke on stage!

There was a minor equipment mishap, specifically with his guitar, and in an effort to keep his audience engaged, he made a joke! It was meant to be funny and self deprecating: “hey sorry, you’re stuck with just me up here…” vs the Foo Fighters who have three guitar players on stage and regularly play stadium shows.

Jack has the upmost respect for the Foo Fighters and communicated with Grohl this morning.

So if you’ll let us, we’ll all continue with our day and we assure you: All is well in the rock n roll world.”
