Funky new group Beat Connection have incorporated the sounds of a sitar and tabla into their latest single, “Another Go Around,” and the result is so phenomenal that it makes me want to dance furiously through a crowd of antagonistic velociraptors. Seriously, it’s that groovy.
Beat Connection have been hard at work since releasing their full-length debut album The Palace Garden back in 2012, releasing a string of singles and EPs along the way. Now, the group finds themselves adding samples of the sounds of India to their funky-fresh, disco-tinged repertoire. Lyrically, the song offers a take on a theme that nearly gets buried under the funk: repeating the same mistakes over and over again. It’s safe to say, however, that Bad Connection aren’t making repeat mistakes or recycling old successes, here. The dynamite sound of “Another Go Around” gives a very brief glimpse into what is sure to be a smashing new LP from the group. This is a single from a group that’s new enough to still surprise a few new listeners (present company included), but have been around long enough that they’re comfortable enough with their core sound to take them into a new direction.
The much-anticipated new record is set to hit stores sometime around early 2015. You can listen to “Another Go Around” right here.
