Weedeater – And Justice For Y’all

Pass the  Brownies..

Weedeater has been around since the early 2000s, bringing their stoned-out , smoke-filled “tough guy” metal to the masses since their inception. Their first album “….And Justice for Y’all” has been remastered for re-release this year. So lets take out the bongs and those special brownies your friend made you last week and let’s dive in head first to a fantastic debut album from Cape Fear, North Carolina’s own, Weedeater.

The first song on the album, “Tuesday Night,” is an instrumental, a perfect way to begin this record. The tone on this album could’ve been stolen straight from a Queens of The Stone Age tune. It’s a muddy, bluesy heavy track that will take you from standing still to full on rocking out in a matter of seconds. The second song on the album, “Monkey Junction,” has the same kind of introduction as “Tuesday Night.” Ugly bass tone and big thick guitars, this album sounds like what molasses — slow and churning from riff to riff.  Then the vocals come in, served up with brutality by Dave “Dixie” Collins, who also plays bass.

“Free,” the third song on “…And Justice For Y’all,” is the fastest song on the record. Fast for them is slow by most metal terms, but it rips. It sounds like drummer Travis Owin is taking a logging class with his drum set. In your face with a steady beat, the man is like an excited metronome.

“…And Justice For Y’all” is a fantastic debut that sounds even better with this re-release. It was hailed then as being a fantastic album, and this writer will do the same now. This is one of those albums that needs a re-release so people can listen to it with fresh ears. Albums get overlooked, and that year in particular was an amazing year for metal releases. So put on those headphones and put the bong down, push play, then bring the bong back up. Weedeaters got some justice to give y’all.
