WATCH: The New Pornographers Release Funny Or Die Short and Perform Live at The Brill Building

The New Pornographers have released two notable videos this week. The first is a live performance video from the Brill Building. And, the second appeared as a short on FunnyOrDie.com.

The first video was released on NPR.com and had been taped as a part of their series, “First Listen Live”. It is fitting that the band would play songs from their new album, Brill Bruisers, at the Brill Building in New York City as a special one-night-only performance. And, the location is fitting given that the Brill Building has a long legendary history with music and songwriting.

From the 1940’s through the 1960’s, the building was home to music publishers and offices in which songwriters would gather – often in pairs – to work on and churn out pop material. Two of the best-known ‘Brill Building era’ songwriters are Carole King and the late Gerry Goffin. Although, Goffin and King were really working out of a building located at 1650 Broadway.

On this special evening, the New Pornographers played a selection of music from each of the albums – they have six out so far – and premiered several of the new tracks, too. And, it was a lasting treasure for everyone in attendance.

Check it out:

Secondarily, the FunnyOrDie.com video also includes A.C. “Carl” Newman’s visit to the Brill Building. Be prepared for references to legendary producer Phil Spector, a title parody of The Crystal’s “He Hit Me & It Felt Like A Kiss”, and so much more.
