Singer-songwriter Rachael Yamagata will hit the road this fall for a tour of North America. She will be headlining this extensive tour, and The Dove & The Wolf, a French duo, will be opening for Yamagata on all of the dates.
Looking ahead at potential clues about her setlist, these headlining dates will span Yamagata’s musical catalogue, and feature a new collection of songs from her upcoming album that will be released sometime in early 2015.
Well known for her lyrics that focus on the good and the bad parts of relationships, when asked how the songwriting has been for the new album in a press release, Yamagata said,
“I woke one morning envisioning a sweat lodge of sorts – a healing, almost shamanic experience… going into a place to retrace the steps of past trauma and present turmoil – facing our life fears head on, but with the intention of exiting lighter and renewed. I keep seeing in others and feeling my own restlessness and I want to explore that discomfort. I’ve focused so much on the ‘partnership’ love in my themes and many of these new songs are reaching for a more self-revolved satisfaction. There are still moments of rehashing what happened in a relationship, the desperation of loneliness and so on, but the goal remains triumph over pain through its articulation.”
Additionally, the tour will include special Happenstance 10 Year Anniversary shows in Chicago, Portland, Los Angeles, Alexandria, Philadelphia, and Brooklyn. Three of the six Happenstance shows are already sold out.
Yamagata recognizes that she’s undertaken quite a challenge with two separate shows on the same tour. But, she seems to be taking it all in stride. She remarked in the press release that, “The two shows will be their own unique experience. In a way, it’s following the intention of the new record – looking back to let go and discovering what comes next”.
