It’s good to know Kanye West isn’t the only one to refuse rapping according to the letter of the law. Kendrick Lamar, known for his numerous collaborations, has found a good mate to bring new verge to rap music – and it’s experimentalist Steven Ellison aka Flying Lotus, who deserted from classic hip-hop even further than Kanye did.
A month before the release of his fifth record, You’re Dead!, Flying Lotus has dropped off a new track ‘Never Catch Me’ featuring Kendrick Lamar. A multidimensional jazzy sound, outbursting with Lamar’s severe rapping and a polyphony of instruments, track is fitting into anyone’s brain perfectly, leaving an exceptional aftertaste. Despite a scary artwork.
Ultimately, ‘Never Catch Me’ feels one of the few experimental jazz-affected songs, accomplished nicely and catchy as hell. And Flying Lotus impresses once again with his talent to embed jazz sounding into the mainstream pop culture.
