WATCH: J Mascis Releases New Video For “Every Morning” Starring Fred Armisen

If you like eggs, hippies, or “psych-folk” rock, J Mascis and Fred Armisen have a video for you.

This latest video opens with the title: “In 1974 a religious cult called The Space Children of the Forest mysteriously disappeared. This recently discovered footage sheds some light on their final days.”

Well, it certainly delivers on the weirdness promised. There are hippies in the woods, lounging around on the grass, huddling around a guitar, and clasping eggs in their hands. There’s hand-holding and swaying and smiling and really, a lot of eggs. Seriously, the eggs are the real stars of this video. J Mascis features as the cult leader, who plays his guitar whilst fanned and surrounded by swaying, egg-carrying forest folk.

Fred Armisen makes an appearance as a very skeptical looking man who stumbles upon the frolicking hippies and their eggs. He brings information about new technology (and the cult leader) and- well, watch the video to see what happens.

Musically, “Every Morning” is pretty easy going. It’s folky, soft-rocky, and Rolling Stone sums it up as “psych-folk,” which, given the video, is fitting. The guitar is the real focus of the song; the vocals are mellow, the melody is gentle and repetitive, but the guitar comes through clear and strong.

“Every Morning” is the second track on J Mascis’ latest album, Tied To A Star that came out this month. J Mascis is set to go on tour this fall, and you can find all the tour dates (along with the ridiculous music video) below.
