Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness @ Irving Plaza 11/12

Andrew McMahon began in the band Left Here after spending much of his childhood teaching himself the piano. Also in the group was Kevin “Clutch” Page (bass) and Brian Irelend (drums). They formed in 1997 and despite winning a local battle of the bands competition broke up shortly thereafter. McMahon recorded the four-track demo Andrew McMahon with Josh Partington (guitar) in 1998. Rueben Hernandez (guitar) joined the group and together they formed Something Corporate.

In 2000 the group recorded Ready…Break and were signed by Drive-Thru Records soon after. They released their EP Audioboxer in 2001. That year Hernandez left and was replaced by William Tell. The following year the band released Leaving Through the Window through Drive-Thru’s distributor MCA. Following the release the band played the Van’s Warped Tour and toured Europe alongside New Found Glory. Their next album North was released in 2003 off of Geffen. Their EP Songs for Silent Movies came out in 2003. The band moved to Maverick Records and in 2004 went on hiatus.

McMahon formed Jack’s Mannequin during the break. The band included Bobby “Raw” Anderson (guitar), Jay McMillan (drums) and Jonathan ‘Dr. J’ Sullivan (bass, guitar). Their debut Everything In Transit was released in 2005. That year Sullivan was replaced by Mikey “The Kid” Wagner (bass, guitar). The band’s next record The Glass Passenger came out in 2008. Three years later they released People and Things. It turned out to be their last record and in 2012 the band played its final show.

Following this, McMahon began again on his solo career. He released The Pop Underground, an EP in 2013. A year later, McMahon again reinvented himself. Under the moniker Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness he released the single “Cecilia and the Satellite”. His debut Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness is due in October 2014.
