The Australian dark electro duo The Presets joins us at the Warfield this November for their Check Yo Ponytail tour with support from Melbourne-based Synthpop darling Chela, local (San Jose) hip hop artist Antwon, and Los Angeles DJ Franki Chan. Kim Moyes (drums and keyboards) and Julian Hamilton (vocals and keyboards) met while studying classical music in 1995 at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, although, they officially formed the Presets in 2003 following their previous synth-pop project under the name Prop. In addition to winning Aria awards for Best Group, Producers of the Year, Best Video (for their track My People), and Best Dance Release, their sophomore album Apocalypso also won Album of the Year 2008, and they moreover won an APRA award for Songwriters of the year in 2009. The Presets have toured with Cut Copy, Daft Punk, Wolfmother, and Digitalism to name a few, and their sound can best be described as electronic dance-rock, electrifying audiences and clubs around the world with a marriage between Cut Copy and Depeche Mode canoodling with Ladytron and early versions of The Faint. The Presets have moreover remixed multiple artists, including fellow countrymen Cut Copy, Midnight Juggernauts, and Rüfüs. Popular tracks by the Presets include include This Boy’s in Love, Talk Like That, and Yippio-Yay, and Youth in Trouble, all of which are guaranteed to make you dance.
