Scott Weiland Accusation Of Meth Charges Actually False

TMZ may not be the most reliable source of news, but usually if the Beverly Hills Police Department says they have a person in custody, they should know who they have in custody. Well believe it or not, the BHPD thought they had Scott Weiland of the Stone Temple Pilots in custody for almost a month before they realized it wasn’t him.

Back in late July, TMZ reported that Weiland had been arrested for allegedly stealing razors from a Beverly Hills Drug Store, and for the arresting officers finding meth on him.

According to TMZ the BHPD gave them a written statement titled “Celebrity Arrest,” which read, “The suspect, former Stone Temple Pilots band member Scott Weiland (46 years of age), was taken into custody…”

The man who was actually in custody apparently said he was Scott Weiland, and the cops believed him without double checking.

After hearing about the situation, a video, made by the real Scott Weiland, in the studio with his band in L.A., was posted on his Facebook stating that he has actually been writing, touring and recording in the studio. Weiland made sure to end the video with,

TMZ, you will be hearing from my lawyers.”

Once the BHPD was notified about the video, they would not change their story telling TMZ that a “physical check” on the inmate had been made, and he was “definitely in custody.”

Later Thursday night the BHPD got back to TMZ letting them know that after running the inmates finger prints through the FBI fingerprint analysis, they realized they made a big mistake and that the man in custody was actually 44-year-old Jason Michael Hurley. Hurley has been in custody since July 26, unable to post his $95,000 bail.

This situation comes just after Weiland told News1130.com in an interview that his days of using drugs are long behind him, even though his past bandmates say otherwise. Weiland said,

Past demons are past demons; that’s stuff that I dealt with 14 years ago. I mean, I guess Keith Richards gets asked about (his past drug use), so why shouldn’t I? But it’s not something that I think about, ever. Those days of my dope abuse, and use, are long since by me.”

Stone Temple Pilots had been on hiatus since 2002 mainly due to Weilands drug and alcohol use, reunited in 2010 for a series of tours then finally fired him in 2013.

The band then replaced Weiland with LINKIN PARK vocalist Chester Bennington, released an EP titled “High Rise” and are now working on a full album.

The album Weiland is in the studio recording in his Facebook video is with his new band The Wildabouts and is scheduled to be released in November.
