If you have never listened to a Foo Fighters record, then now is the time to discover them. The Fighters have recently released a trailer for Sonic Highways, an intriguing new HBO documentary that follows the group as they put together the album of the same name, while simultaneously exploring the evolution of American music.
For the last twenty years, the Foo Fighters have been perhaps one of the most dynamic groups that have ever come out of the 1990s. Despite initial announcements that they were taking a break after the release of their latest album, the critically acclaimed Wasting Light, the Foo Fighters recently confirmed the release date for Sonic Highways, the band’s eighth studio album and follow-up to the smash hit Wasting Light. Releasing just prior to the album’s release will be a new documentary on HBO that chronicles the band’s interesting new method of recording the album, which involved using eight different studios in eight different American cities, each of which have their own unique history in American music.
Featured within the documentary are interviews with Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, and several other recording artists as they share the myriad of ways in which the history of American music has shaped their own careers. In addition, Sonic Highways will present a history lesson of sorts, detailing the roots of American music and showing how American music has evolved over time.
Adding to the excitement of the upcoming album, the Foo Fighters are selling special edition packages of the record which allows fans to select the album cover of their choosing from among nine different images, including the primary album cover, which features an amalgamation of all eight cities visited by the band.
The last two years have seen a huge creative output from the Foo Fighters, and we can only hope that that output doesn’t end here. The ambitious new album will be out on November 10th, with the documentary set to release on HBO on October 17th. Be sure to catch the new trailer here.
