Aphex Twin is releasing a new album, titled Syro, on September 23, 2014 via Warp Records. This new release marks the end of his 13-year hiatus.
Warp Records also filled in a few gaps for the media and fans alike, because the original press release – although highly creative – was not highly informative. First, the new album artwork is a creation of the Designer Republic, according to RollingStone. And, it is an itemized list of charges based on previous promotional expenses that Aphex Twin incurred.
Secondly, Warp revealed that there are going to be 200 limited edition Syro box sets released. The label, or the artist, decided to cap the number at 200 due to the time required to make the sets. So, to obtain a box set fans first have to apply to be a part of the Syro box set lottery; “then 200 lucky Aphex Twin fans will have the opportunity to drop $400 on this special Syro,” according to Rolling Stone.
For those who do not have $400, or feel compelled to enter a lottery to get a copy of the new music, don’t worry because Syro will be released digitally, and physically on vinyl or CD.
Richard D. James, the man behind Aphex Twin, has put a new twist on album promotion, and is probably getting a kick out of the media’s confusion over his creative press release.
