Canada has brought a lot of fantastic musical groups and solo artists to our attention. Rush, Neil Young, and The Band are but a few of the examples of recording artists that have proudly traced their roots to a country that has been the butt of many American jokes over the years. Now, our brothers to the north have bestowed a new single from a group that continues to impress, The New Pornographers.
On the verge of their fifteenth anniversary, Canadian indie group The New Pornographers have released a second song off of their upcoming album, Brill Bruisers. The song, “Dancehall Domine,” is a rocking new tune that exemplifies the band’s latest musical renaissance, as vocalist A.C. Newman recently stated:
I think the voices melded together more seamlessly than ever before. I think this record is closest to what I always wanted us to be, where it doesn’t really matter who’s singing…I never wanted us to be a band where we were taking turns singing.”
This, combined with the also-released “War on the East Coast,” lays the groundwork for what is sure to be one killer album from the Canadian rockers. “Dancehall Domine” in particular has a rolling backbeat and a lively vocal performance that is a refreshing sound that isn’t quite so typical from the band. The group hasn’t put together an album of original material since 2010’s Together, as the band has often split to allow the individual members to pursue solo endeavors, but the two released singles off the new album give the group a fresh, new sound that makes it seem as though the last four years were worth waiting for. Brill Bruisers is due for release on August 26th, and you can see the video for their latest single right here.
