New Found Glory was started by Jordan Pundik (vocals), Chad Gilbert (guitar), Ian Grushka (bass), Steve Klein (guitar) and Cyrus Bolooki (drums) in 1997. The band is hailed as the godfathers of pop punk and have shaped the genre since the late 1990s. The band’s name was reportedly inspired by “A Newfound Interest in Massachusetts” by the Get Up Kids. Pundik and Klein came up with “New Found Glory” when they were working at Red Lobster.
The band began when Pundik and Grushka, then in the band Inner City Kids/Flip 60, added classmate Klein, from the band Fallview. They added Joe “Taco Joe” Marino as a drummer and Shai Hulud’s Chad Gilbert on guitar. The band’s first EP It’s All About Girls was recorded in 1997 and distributed by Fiddler Records. Marino was replaced by Bolooki on the drums soon thereafter. They left on tour after the release, gained a quick underground following and were signed by Eulogy Recordings. Nothing Gold Can Stay, their debut full length, was recorded in 1999. Drive-Thru Records bought the license to Nothing Gold Can Stay from Eulogy and signed the band. The debut was followed by the cover EP From the Screen to Your Stereo in 2000. The same year they released New Found Glory. In 2002 Sticks and Stones was released. That year they also released the live video album The Story So Far. Their next record Catalyst came out in 2004 as did their second alive album This Disaster: Live In London.
In 2006 Coming Home came out, marking a change and perhaps a maturity in the band’s sound. The band released another cover album, From the Screen to Your Stereo Part II, in 2007. The following year they released the EP Tip of the Iceberg and a compilation album Hits. In 2009 Not Without A Fight was released, followed by Radiosurgery in 2011. In 2013 the band released a live album Kill it Live and another cover album Mania. That year Klein also left the band. Their most recent release Resurrection came out in 2014.
