California’s Black Flag formed in 1976 in Hermosa Beach. The band has undergone many line up changes since then and now consists of Greg Ginn, Mike Vallely, Tyler Smith and Brandon Pertzborn. Keith Morris, Chuck Dukowski, Raymond Pettibon, Ron Reyes, Dex Cadena and others once made up the legendary punk band. The band is known for their anti-conformist message, DIY ethics and adherence to the punk lifestyle. Their first record Damaged came out in 1981. It was followed by My War three years later. Family Man and Slip It In were released the year after that. In 1985 the band released Loose Nut and In My Head. The following year the band broke up. They released Who’s Got the 10½?, a live album, in early 1986. The band played its last show on June 27th of that year in Michigan. The band members went on to play in groups such as Gone, October Faction, DOS, Lemonheads and Stevenson.

They reunited briefly in 2003 for a series of shows at the Hollywood Palladium and Alex’s Bar. At that point the band was Dez Cadena, Greg Ginn, Robo, C’el Revueita as well as guest vocals by Mike Vallely. Gregory Moore also played drums for part of the set. Several years later in 2010 Ginn and Reyes played a Black Flag set at the 50th birthday party for Reyes. Members of Black Flag and the Descendents played the Nervous Breakdown EP the following year at the 30th anniversary show of the show Goldenvoice. In 2013 Greg Ginn and Ron Reyes reformed Black Flag. They announced plans to tour and release a new album. What The… was released late that year.
